June is officially here! With that usually means sooo many more options for fresh produce that’s in season in our area. While not all of it is grown right here, since most of these can now actually come from the united states, we can get our june produce much quicker-which means its fresher.
So… here’s your guide of what to buy this month. Not only will buying seasonal produce taste better, it also usually means that they are cheaper and go on sale more often!
We’ll start with the fruit first because I like fruits better than veggies LOL
What fruits are in season in June?
Bueberries are extremely healthy! I mean if you look it up if you eat blueberries you’ll like never get sick. They are full of antioxins, which promote better brain health, prevent cancer, heart attacks, and like every other bad thing out there.
Blueberries taste almost citrus like, but they are sweeter, they burst when you bite into them. most are slightly sweeter, but with a tang!
Also… blueberries are one of the fruits that you should buy organic because a lot of pesticides are used on the ones that aren’t organic!
It took me until like last year to finally eat a fresh cherry. And they are soooo good! But there are basically 2 types of cherries, the sweet ones, or tart.
Now me personally? I like the sweet ones better! The tart ones are too sour for me.
And did you know that cherries are actually a superfood? They are packed with anti-inflammatory superpowers.
This fruit is low in calories but is loaded with fiber! So its one of those fruits you can eat guiltlessly (although to me you can eat any fruit guiltlessly LOL) with all the fiber it has it’ll keep full longer than fruit.
Maybe some people actually call ruhbard a vegetable? Honestly we’ve had arguments about this. LOL but I think they are fruits! The leaves are posinous though so be carefull with disposing those. While I do grow rhubarb, its super sour! But when you pair it with strawberries… wow sooo good!
Everyone loves strawberries right? If not… we’re not friends anymore LOL JK. But really this fruit is so versatile, sweet and just oh so good.
Strawberries are also super high in nutritional benefits. As a great source of fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants, strawberries can benefit your health in soo many ways. Lowering blood pressure to lower your risk of stroke they’ll really do it all.
Ok I’m starting to sound like a broken record. These sweet fleshy plums are super good for you too! Loaded with vitamins, minerals and fibre your should never get sick if you eat this fruit either. If only it was that easy right??
Raspberries are almost as good as strawberries. ALMOST. And guess what?? They are a super food too! So that means eat them enough and you shouldn’t get sick either. If only it was that easy right? Since it’s full of antionins, are high in fibre and low in sugar its another fruit that’s perfect for snacks!
What vegetables are in season in June?
I also have a love have relationship with these. The go from not ready to eat to rotten within like a day. Like really… but they are so good for you! And so versatile too. I put them in a lot of things from popsicles to just on toast, but they are also super expensive so we don’t actually always have them.
With a rich buttery flavor and sometimes sweet, when they are fully ripe they can have a delicate hearty flavour! Make sure you eat them ripe though becasue otherwise they’ll leave behind a bitter after taste.
Ok I hate these. Honestly. LOL this is a veggie you won’t find in my house. BUT that being said they have a sweet slightly earthy taste and are full of all kinds of things that are super good for you!
So I actually have a trick for you on this one. Sometimes cucumbers can have a bitter taste right? But you can fix this! Thinly slice off each end of the cucumber and then rub the end on the cut side (so the cut endss are together like your trying to put it back together) and then start rubbing, rub it until the foam stops forming and then repeat it on the other side! MINDBLOWING LOl
I run out of this all the time! From all your lettuces, to swiss chard, spinach now is the time to get them! Although to be brutally honest I can’t tell the difference from when I buy them in the middle of winter or in the summer but hey, now’s the time apparently!
Did you know most babies and toddler can actually eat frozen peas for a snack? They are small enough that they won’t choke, and they are healthy! Full of nutrients and antioxins they are the perfect food for them to snack on.
This is a root crop that has a very short growing season unlike a lot of other veggies that you can grow. You can easily plant radishes 3 times over the summer. If you eat them raw, then they’ll have a spicy flavor, and when you cook, or roast them it brings out a sweet flavor!
So they you have it! The most common produce that’s in season for June! Which one do you like the most and which do you hate?
I’m going to have to say I love strawberries the most (although raspberries and blueberries come really close too, and I HATE beets!
